John D. England, MD, FANA

Dr. John D. England is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association, and a member of several professional organizations, including the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Society for Neurological Investigation, the Society for Neuroscience, the Peripheral Nerve Society, and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Dr. England served as Chair of the Polyneuropathy Task Force of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He also chaired the Guidelines Development Committee of the American Academy of Neurology from 2009 to 2013. He is a past president of both the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the American Academy of Clinical Neurophysiology, and a past Chair of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM).
Currently, Dr. England is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Neurological Sciences, the official journal of the World Federation of Neurology. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of World Neurology and eNeurologicalSci. Additionally, he is Chair of the Publications and Communications Committee for the World Federation of Neurology and President of its Applied Research Group on Neuromuscular Diseases.
Dr. England is a Councilor for the Association of University Professors of Neurology (AUPN) and Chair of the AUPN Program Director Liaison Group. He has also served as an editorial consultant for numerous peer-reviewed journals, including Muscle and Nerve, Annals of Neurology, European Journal of Neurology, The Lancet Neurology, and Neurology.
His major clinical interests include neuromuscular diseases—particularly peripheral neuropathy—and electrophysiology. His research focuses on the pathophysiology of peripheral neuropathies and sodium channel modulation in experimental models of peripheral neuropathy. Dr. England has authored or co-authored more than 300 articles, reviews, chapters, and abstracts.
