Dr. Maura Manion performs research in the HIV Pathogenesis Section under the direction of Dr. Irini Sereti where the laboratory’s focus is on the inflammatory complications in HIV, particularly looking at immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) and non-infectious complications like cardiovascular disease. Dr. Manion’s specific focus in the laboratory is the characterization of the immune response during IRIS in patients with immunocompromised states other than HIV infection and investigating the consequences and management of inflammation of HIV-1 infection. Dr. Manion is an investigator on a protocol focused on paradoxical reactions in patients with tuberculosis. Dr. Manion is the government supervisor to the NIAID clinical fellows, and she serves as core faculty for the ACGME accredited fellowship training programs in allergy immunology and infectious diseases.
