Gordon F. Buchanan, MD, PhD, FAES, FANA

Dr. Gordon F. Buchanan is the Beth L. Tross Epilepsy Professor in Neurology and the Director of the Iowa Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City. He completed his undergraduate, graduate, and medical studies at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, followed by neurology residency and a neuroscience fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine. At the University of Iowa, he cares for patients with epilepsy and conducts basic science research focused on understanding mechanisms of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), with particular interest in the role of sleep state, time of day, and circadian rhythms in regulating seizures and susceptibility to seizure-related death.
