Catherine Limperopoulos, PhD

Children’s National Hospital
Dr. Catherine Limperopoulos directs Children’s Center for Prenatal, Neonatal and Maternal Health Research. Her team pioneers innovations to better understand signals of well-being and distress the fetus sends from the womb. This includes leading-edge fetal imaging, electrophysiology and genetic/epigenetic techniques. Dr. Limperopoulos’ team advances understanding of disease by casting light on the “black box” of the womb, where such life-long conditions begin. The Center leveraged ground-breaking discoveries about how maternal mental health disorders and psychosocial stressors transmit to the fetus during pregnancy to reduce women’s stress and to prevent future cognitive, psychological and behavioral complications among women’s offspring.
