Dr. Aashit K. Shah is a distinguished neurologist and healthcare leader, currently serving as the Chief of Neurology at Carilion Clinic and a tenured professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. As the Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, he has spearheaded advancements in the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy, focusing on innovative diagnostics, surgical solutions, and increasing access to clinical trials. Dr. Shah’s research has made significant contributions to epilepsy care, particularly in the areas of surgical interventions, quantitative analysis of EEG including intracranial EEG to understand neural dynamics in epilepsy as well as effects of drugs on EEG, tumor-related epilepsy and management of status epilepticus. His work has been published in leading journals, including Epilepsia, Seizure, and Clinical Neurophysiology. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications, numerous invited lectures, and recognition in Virginia Business Magazine’s Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, Marquis Who’s Who, and Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors, Dr. Shah’s impact in the field is widely acknowledged. A dedicated educator, Dr. Shah, has enriched graduate medical education at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, where he has excelled in training both medical and allied health students. He also established a fellowship program for mid-level providers. Dr. Shah’s leadership experience extends beyond his current role; he previously served as the Interim Chair of Neurology at Wayne State University and as the Specialist-in-Chief at the Detroit Medical Center. He has also held key positions as Neurology Residency Coordinator and Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship Program Director.
