Autoimmune Neurology & MS*
Date: September 16, 2025
Time: 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
Room: Grand Ballrooms 7 - 8 (Third Floor Level)
Track: Traditional Special Interest Group (SIG)
Session Description
This session will review updates in autoimmune neurologic disorders of the central nervous system and in multiple sclerosis. It will focus on fluid‑based biomarkers (e.g., serum neurofilament light chain and glial fibrillary acidic protein) in MS and autoimmune neurologic disorders, including their prognostic value and how they should be incorporated into clinical practice. Moreover, their use in upcoming or published diagnostic criteria will be covered. We will also review new antibody discoveries and the utility of novel identification techniques—such as phage display—highlighting recently discovered neural antibodies exemplifying these methodologies. Additionally, we will explore how antibody testing can be expanded globally with innovative approaches to reach those who currently lack access, offering testing that is more affordable and less resource‑intensive for these regions. Finally, the session will cover the latest understanding of immune‑mediated neurologic disorders of the central nervous system.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the session, attendees should be able to:
- Understand the latest mechanisms of neural antibody discovery.
- Discuss the ways antibody testing is being brought to the developing world.
- Assess the prognostic value of fluid based injury biomarkers in MS and autoimmune neurologic disorders.
